Frequently Asked Questions

Short covers the foot and ankle and stops just above the ankle bone. Tall runs up the shin. Foot fractures, toe surgery, Achilles and ankle sprains usually get the Short. Anything involving the lower leg. Tibia, fibula, a high ankle sprain. Needs the Tall ROM Walker Boot. Your doctor's discharge note normally says which.

Go by shoe size. Men: XS under 4.5, S 4.5-7, M 7.5-10.5, L 11-12.5, XL 13-15. Women: XS under 6, S 6-8, M 8.5-11.5, L 12-13.5, XL 14-16. If you're between sizes, or you'll be wearing a thick dressing, take the larger.

ROM is range of motion. The dial on each side lets you lock the ankle at a fixed angle or allow a set amount of flex. Your physio or surgeon sets it, and typically opens it up in stages as you heal. Don't change it yourself unless they've told you the sequence.

It weighs 1.4 to 2.4 lb depending on size, and the rocker sole is shaped so you roll through a step rather than clunk. One customer said it took a day or two to get used to; another expected it to be bulky and found it fit surprisingly well. Wear the Shoe Lift Balancer on your other foot to level your hips.

There are multiple hook-and-loop straps and they hold well, but one reviewer noted needing to re-tighten through the day as swelling changed. That's normal in the first week after an injury. The foot goes up and down in size. Check them when you stand up.

Yes. The padded liner with its two foam inserts lifts out. Wipe it with a damp cloth and air dry. Don't submerge it or put it in the machine. Wipe the shell the same way. It's latex-free.

Not on the affected side. The rigid sole and locked ankle mean you can't feel the pedal or move fast enough to brake, and most insurers treat driving in a boot as unsafe. Left foot in an automatic is a question for your doctor and your insurer.
