Using a Knee Scooter in Different Places
A. Indoors (Homes, Offices, Stores, etc.)

  • Ensure a Clear Path: Remove rugs, cords, or clutter to prevent tripping hazards.
  • Slow & Steady Movement: Avoid sharp turns and excessive speed, especially on hardwood or tiled floors.
  • Navigating Doorways: If a doorway is narrow, turn the handlebars slightly and use one foot to help guide.
  • Use Handrails: If available, use handrails for additional balance while maneuvering near stairs.

B. Outdoors (Sidewalks, Parks, Streets, etc.)

Check the Terrain: Avoid gravel, grass, and uneven surfaces. Stick to smooth sidewalks.

Use the Brakes When Necessary: Engage brakes on slopes to prevent rolling too fast.

Be Aware of Curbs: Approach curbs slowly and use ramps when available.

C. Public Transportation (Buses, Trains, Airports, etc.)

Secure Your Balance: Lock the brakes when waiting for transport to avoid rolling.

Boarding Buses & Trains: Enter slowly and hold onto railings for support.

Airports: Use accessibility services if needed; fold the scooter before boarding if required.

D. Workplaces & Schools

Use Ramps & Elevators: Avoid stairs and always take an accessible route.

Store It Safely: Keep it in a designated area to avoid obstructing others.

How to Fold & Store a Knee Scooter in a Car

Engage the Brakes: Prevent movement before handling.

Fold the Steering Column:
Locate the quick-release lever or knob near the base of the steering column.
Unlock and fold the handlebars down toward the knee pad.

Remove the Basket (if attached): Detach any accessories to save space.

Lift & Place in the Car Trunk:
Hold the frame securely and lift with proper posture.

If needed, angle it to fit inside smaller trunks.

Secure It to Prevent Movement: Use bungee cords or soft padding to keep it from shifting while driving.

Sanitization:

  • The equipment is first cleaned with a dry soft cloth and air spray to get rid of all the debris and dust particles.
  • Then a 75% alcohol based disinfectant is sprayed throughout the equipment especially at the point of contact like the wheelchair arm rest and wheel rims or the Knee walker handles and seats. We let the disinfectant sit for 15 minutes  before the wipe down.
  • The mobility equipment seats are cleaned with brushes to make sure all dust, lint, hair and debris are taken out and then sprayed on with the 75% alcohol based disinfectant.
