It straps onto the shoe on your healthy foot to raise it to the same height as a walking boot on the other. Without it you walk with one leg effectively shorter, which loads the hip and lower back. The sole is thermoplastic rubber with a non-slip tread, so it grips indoors and out. Take normal care on wet tiles, as you would in any shoe.
